The 18-hole Golf Course of the Stars, designed by South African golfing legend Ernie Els, will be one of the key draw cards of Desert Star Motion Picture Resort. This course will stretch across hills and valleys on the Namibian side of the Orange River, bordering the core resort development, to form part of the entertainment hub for guests and visiting celebrities.
The Golf Course of the Stars will be developed in harmony with the natural environment, using the very latest sustainable methodologies.
Only one Golf Estate will be built overlooking the greens of each of the 18 holes. In each of the Golf Estates, Desert Star Resort will provide 20 carefully selected celebrities with a one week fractional property ownership. Some of the proposed celebrity owners for the 18th hole Royal Golf Estate are: Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep, Halle Berry, Steven Spielberg, Morgan Freeman, Oprah Winfrey, Roger Federer, Bo Jackson, Mike Horn, Lance Armstrong, Johann Rupert, Joe Montana, Ernie Els, Os Du-Randt, Sashin Tendulkar, Pele and Frankie Fredericks.
The annual Desert Star Celebrity Golf Invitational will see international film celebrities and sports stars team up with pro golfers in a pair-play format in aid of a charitable fund focused on sport development for youth in Namibia. In addition to the main charity, each of the 18 holes will be connected to a specific charity and the action broadcast live to an international audience.
The three-day tournament will allow viewers a blow-by-blow account of the fun and drama on the green – caddies will be carrying iPads so players can see what's going on around the course and all participants will be wearing live microphones, which is sure to generate the most memorable live entertainment.
The first annual Celebrity Golf Invitational is scheduled to take place from 1-3 September 2013, with a combination of Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy and Ernie Els named as possible commentators.
The rolling greens of this sustainable 18 hole Golf Course of the Stars will delight and entertain celebrities and tourists alike. September 2013 will see the first of an annual charitable golfing tournament featuring celebrity players, the blow-by-blow action of which will be broadcast live to the world.
